Bridges

A bridge is a reliable, long-lasting solution for replacing one or more missing teeth.

As the name suggests, a bridge “spans” the gap left by missing teeth, relying on the support of adjacent teeth, which must be healthy.

What is a Dental Bridge?

The surrounding teeth are used to anchor the bridge, ensuring stability and strength, while the replacement teeth are carefully matched to the colour and appearance of your natural teeth, providing a seamless, aesthetically pleasing result. A dental bridge can improve both eating comfort and confidence, restoring your smile.

Ceramic bridges are often preferred for their natural, tooth-like appearance. In cases where the adjacent teeth are damaged or have been previously root treated, your dentist may recommend alternative solutions for missing teeth.

What are the different types of Dental Bridge?

Broadly speaking, there are two types of bridges:

  • A fixed bridge – involves preparing adjacent teeth for crowns, which are then attached to the “replacement teeth”.
  • A resin bonded bridge – usually attached to one or both adjacent teeth using a metal wing, with minimal or no preparation of the adjacent tooth.

Depending on your situation and the type of bridge you receive, your bridge might consist of one or more abutments and one or more pontics.

There are pros and cons to each type and your dentist can advise you on the best option for you. Make an appointment today at Village Dental to find out if a bridge is the solution to your missing teeth.

Bridges FAQs

What is involved in production of bridges?

The dental bridge procedure typically requires two appointments. If a fixed bridge is determined to be the most suitable treatment, your dentist will begin by preparing the adjacent teeth to serve as anchors for the bridge. These teeth will be fitted with crowns to securely support the bridge. Scans will be taken using our itero scanner of your teeth and sent to our dental technicians, where custom-made replacement teeth will be constructed to replicate the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth. During your second visit, the bridge will be carefully fitted, adjusted, and secured, ensuring a comfortable and natural result.

How Long Does a Dental Bridge Last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental bridges are a durable and long-lasting solution. They can serve you for many years, providing a strong and functional replacement for missing teeth. Your dentist will provide guidance on how to care for your bridge to ensure its longevity and optimal performance. Ultimately, the lifespan will be dependent on a number of factors, primarily being the health of the adjacent teeth.
